Privacy Policy
The calculators on this site run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type into a dough calculator is sent anywhere, stored, or seen by us. What we do collect is anonymous analytics, plus an email address if you deliberately submit one through a form.
What the calculators do with your input
Nothing leaves your device. Every calculator on PizzaOvenCalc.com is plain JavaScript running in your browser. Ball counts, hydration percentages, room temperatures and oven temperatures are computed locally and never transmitted, logged or stored. Closing the tab discards them. There is no account, no saved history and no server-side calculation.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages get used and which do not. It records anonymous, aggregated information: the page you viewed, the approximate region, the device type, the referring site, and interactions such as clicking an outbound product link. We do not receive your name, your email address or any personally identifying information from analytics.
Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish repeat visits from new ones. You can block those with a browser setting, a content blocker, or Google's own opt-out browser add-on, and the site will work identically. Nothing here depends on analytics being allowed.
Affiliate links
Product links on this site are affiliate links, principally to Amazon. When you follow one, the retailer may set a cookie that records that you arrived from here, so that a commission can be attributed if you buy something. That cookie is set by the retailer, is governed by the retailer's own privacy policy, and typically expires within 24 hours.
We receive aggregate reporting from those programs: how many clicks, how many orders, what product categories. We do not receive your identity, your address, your payment details or any other personal information about you as a purchaser. Read the affiliate disclosure for how the commercial side works.
Forms and email addresses
Two kinds of form exist on this site and they are handled differently on purpose.
- The contact form is delivered by FormSubmit, which emails your message directly to us. We use the address you provide only to reply to you. It is not added to any mailing list and it is not shared or sold.
- The "email me this build" boxes on the build guides post to a Google Form, which records your email address and which page you submitted from. That is used to send you the build list and occasional related updates. Every email includes an unsubscribe link and you can unsubscribe from the first one.
We do not sell, rent or trade email addresses. If you want an address removed entirely, ask through the contact page and we will delete it.
Third parties involved
- Google Analytics, for anonymous usage measurement.
- Google Forms, for the build-list email capture.
- FormSubmit, for delivering contact form messages by email.
- Google Fonts, which serves the typefaces used on the site.
- Amazon, which serves product images and receives affiliate link clicks.
- Our hosting provider, which serves the pages and keeps standard server logs.
Each of those operates under its own privacy policy. We do not share any information with them beyond what is inherent in the service they provide.
Cookies
This site sets no cookies of its own. The only cookies you may receive come from Google Analytics and from retailers when you follow an affiliate link. Blocking cookies entirely will not break any calculator, chart or page here.
Links out to retailers
Following an affiliate link takes you to a third-party site with its own privacy practices, its own cookies and its own account systems. We have no visibility into what happens after you leave and no ability to influence it. Read the retailer's own policy if that matters to you, and note that the attribution cookie they set is theirs rather than ours.
All outbound product links carry rel="nofollow noopener sponsored". The
noopener part is a security measure: it prevents the destination page from
manipulating the tab it was opened from.
Children
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has submitted an email address here, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted. In practice the only personal data we ever hold is an email address you chose to give us. Ask through the contact page and we will action it.
What we deliberately do not do
Listing the absences is more useful than listing the presences, because most of what people worry about is not happening here.
- No advertising network. There are no ad tags, no ad auctions and no advertising cookies on this site at all.
- No cross-site tracking pixels. No social platform pixels, no retargeting tags, no data-broker scripts.
- No fingerprinting. Nothing here attempts to identify a device by its configuration.
- No selling or renting of data. Not email addresses, not analytics, not anything.
- No account system. There is nothing to sign up for, so there is no password, no profile and no stored history.
- No server-side storage of calculator input. There is no server-side calculation at all.
Server logs
Our hosting provider keeps standard access logs, which typically record an IP address, a timestamp, the requested URL and a user agent string. Those are generated by the act of serving a web page and are used for security and for diagnosing faults. We do not use them to build profiles of visitors and we do not combine them with any other data.
Data retention
Analytics data is retained according to the retention setting in Google Analytics, which is configured to the shortest practical period. Contact form messages are retained in email for as long as is useful to answer them and any follow-up. Email addresses submitted through a build guide are retained until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion, whichever comes first.
Using the site with everything blocked
Everything here works with analytics blocked, cookies disabled and a content blocker running. The calculators are plain JavaScript executing locally, the charts are static HTML tables, and no page gates content behind an email address or an account. If a strict privacy setup breaks something here, that is a bug and we would like to know about it through the contact page.
The one thing that will not work with JavaScript disabled entirely is the calculators themselves, since arithmetic in the browser requires the browser to run it. The reference charts exist partly for that reason: they carry the same figures as static tables and need nothing but HTML.
What an analytics event actually records
Two custom events exist on this site beyond ordinary page views, and it is easier to say what they contain than to describe them in the abstract.
- An outbound product click records the destination URL, the product identifier, the visible link text and the page path. It exists so we can see which recommendations are actually useful. It contains nothing about you.
- A build-list signup records which page the form was submitted from. The email address itself goes to Google Forms and is never sent to analytics.
Nothing records what you typed into a calculator, because calculator input never leaves your browser in the first place.
International visitors
This site is operated from the United States and the services it relies on, including analytics, forms and hosting, may process data in the United States and elsewhere. By using the site you understand that any information you choose to submit may be transferred and processed outside your own country.
Product images
Product images on this site are served directly from Amazon's content delivery network rather than copied and rehosted here, which is a requirement of the affiliate program. Loading an image involves a request to that network, in the same way loading any third-party image on any site does. It does not identify you to us and we receive nothing from it.
Typefaces are served by Google Fonts for the same structural reason: they are hosted externally and requested by your browser. Both are visible in any network inspector, and both are blockable without breaking any calculator or chart on the site.
Do Not Track and global privacy signals
We do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of in that sense. Because the site holds no personal data of its own and runs no advertising, honouring a browser privacy signal is largely moot here, but analytics can be blocked entirely with a browser setting or a content blocker and nothing on the site depends on it running.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS and stores no personal data of its own, because there is no account system and no database of visitors. The only personal data that exists anywhere is an email address you deliberately submitted, held either in an email inbox or in a Google Forms spreadsheet, both of which are access controlled.
Related pages
The rest of the site is organised in the order the work happens. The calculators do the dough arithmetic, the reference charts carry the same figures as printable lookup tables, and the method guides explain what to do when the dough in front of you disagrees with the numbers. On the equipment side, the oven specification pages cover every model we track, the gear roundups pick products at three tiers, the comparisons settle the head to head questions, and the complete builds put everything together at three budgets with a running total on every line. The about page explains how all of it is put together.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be posted here. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. See also the terms of service and the disclaimer.
